Top 5 Tips to Remember When Moving House
Moving houses is exhausting at best. For the most part the exercise is tiring, stressful, and costly. The experience is never memorable. Maybe it is for a few. For the majority of us, the whole experience is anything but enjoyable. Just something we have to do. It seems even the excitement of moving, from rented accommodation, to your own house can always be checked when the reality of the whole moving experience sets in. But the reality is you probably must move. The best you can do is making sure it goes as smoothly as possible. The following tips should help in that:-
Plan Ahead of Time
Usually moving house is not a decision you stumble upon. It is likely you will know well ahead of time. That should give you enough time to properly prepare for the move. Regularize your move with your current landlord or real estate agent. Make sure the place you are moving to is ready. If it is not too early, make arrangements to change your address.
Seize the opportunity to declutter
You will soon need to start packing. But before you start filling boxes with stuff, take time to declutter and get rid of things you no longer need. There will be clothes, small appliances, and furniture you have not used in a while and are unlikely to use again.
Also, you will be shocked how much junk stuff you been keeping. There will probably be stuff you can sell too. Arrange a garage sale and sell it all. The money you raise from the garage sale could help cover the moving expenses as well.
Prepare the House you Are Moving to
Perhaps the only time you can look at moving house with any enthusiasm is when you remember how nice the house you are moving to is. Maybe it does not have to be. But you will want to at least know the place is ready for your move. Ensure the plumbing there is working properly, that there is enough lighting in all the rooms, and that you will be able to prepare some meals when you move in.
Take Your Time Packing your Valuables
This is the part that most of us dread. But it is the most important. Take your time packing your most important possessions. Ceramic dishes, tea sets, gadgetry and appliances, art pieces, and anything you value! Even your important documents! Buy sturdy boxes and bubble wrap, and pack everything.
Carefully label your boxes for what’s inside and which room it will be dropped in by the movers. Pack the heavier things at the bottom of boxes and carefully seal them right around so the bottom won’t give during moving. When packed, make sure boxes don’t exceed 20kgs in weight.
Research the Right Removals Company
Removals’ companies do charge quite a bit. It is a tough job, and they must get fair compensation. But you shouldn’t hire the first company that you find. Ask around for the right one. Someone in your circles probably moved recently. The best ones are always recommended.
As you research the movers, be sure to ask about their packing policy. Most like things packed a particular way. Importantly, understand how much it will cost you, and book well ahead of your move.
There are other things you may feel to do to make the moving process smoother. But the few tips that we have discussed here should ensure it does not go terribly wrong, that nothing important gets lost or broken.
